I Just Want to Buy Her a Flower
©️2024 Bo Edwards
Chorus
I just want to buy her a flower
I just want to buy her a rose
I just want to tell Momma I love her
Momma loves me, Heaven knows
The little girl takes out a dollar
At the corner shop flower boutique
Offers it up to the lady
Says I’d like a rose there in pink
The lady says sorry my darlin’
A dozen for one I can’t break
Okay, she says, and takes back her dollar
And I see a tear on her cheek
I know that I have to do something
There’s a small voice in my ear
Telling me buy her the dozen
I’ve never heard anything clearer
So I buy them all and I offer
To see that they safely arrive
Safely to Momma, expecting a shanty
She says it’s a very short drive
I drive and she’s singing direction
Clutching the flowers she’s found
I have to see Momma’s reaction
I’ve never seen this part of town
She says this is it, but no shanty
Just some broken up steps and some weeds
I swallow real hard as she skips through the yard
Of that Baker Street cemetery
