Innocence
©️2025 Bo Edwards
Two years ago I heard these words
from our little man
In the quiet, both eyes tight
He knelt with folded hands
The words he used at first amused
then took me back the same,
Our Father who art in Heaven, how did you know my name?
We’d rehearsed that very verse,
But from the mouths of babes
Comes stealing truth, the Lord’s reproof,
conviction, yes, and praise
I’m sure the Lord heard every word
And then smiled just the same
Our Father who art in Heaven, how did you know my name?
Chorus
How did you know my name, Father?
How did you know my name?
That’s what I heard him ask the Lord
How did you know my name?
Today I lay myself to sleep
Still pray his innocence to keep
Our Father who art in Heaven, how did you know my name?
Two years have passed, they went too fast
But still our little man
Bows his little head at night
Still folds his little hands
And now he knows the words just right
Yet innocence remains
Our Father who art in Heaven, hallowed be thy name
Beautiful song Bo! My only nit is the lack of the word "Innocence," in the song. Generally, you would name the song for the hook which is repeated. So, "How Did You Know My Name," should be the name of the song, in my mind. But Miley got away with naming her great song, "Flowers,": when that wasn't the hook to me. So, even naming a song is subjective.
In any event, great job! I suspect this one will get pitched, because it will be hard to beat, in my mind.

Thanks for your liking it Dave!! And I appreciate the criticism. Believe it or not, I did title it “My Name” at one time, but changed it to “Innocence” as the theme is that of how the innocence of babes makes us stop and think sometimes. The word is in the chorus, although, as you pointed out, not the hook itself. So glad you liked it!
I love love this Bo, great job!
Thank you!
