I was talking to a friend
In his hospital bed
Talking 'bout small stuff
And then he said
"There's a lot of things
I've done that I regret"

"Not sure I really know 
What's gonna happen to me"
"Don't know if I'm going up or down
Or somewhere in between"
"All I know is that my heart
Has always searched for The Light"

I gently touched his hand
Then said with with a confident ring
"There's someone that's a friend
who know everything"
"And one thing that He knows
Is what the heart desires"

"He's the only one that's 
Lived a perfect life"
"So He can help us through
Any kind of strife"
All we need to do
Is place our trust in Him each day"

    This body doesn't always do
    What the heart desires
    The mind gets in the way
    And leads us closer to the fire
    But there's always the chance
    To break away if we want to

    There's  a lot of living 
    That needs to be erased
    A lot of regrets
    That need to be replaced
    With a hope even if we depend
    More on His mercy 
    Than His grace

As I left the room
I had to reflect a bit
On my own way of life
Wondering if I was fit
To receive the prize
That's given to all those who last

Depending on His mercy 
Is no guarantee
Cause the final decision
Is beyond what I can see
His mercy's no excuse
For not doing what is right

So I'll lean even harder
On His free gift of life
And try to do the things
That are pleasing in His sight
And even if I fail I know with Him
I'll be in first place

And when it's all 
said and done
I still want 
to be the one
That depended less on His mercy
And more on His grace.

    This body doesn't always do
