We grow everything we eat, ‘cept those little spuds

Daddy built our house by hand, Momma makes our duds

We wouldn’t even go to town, even once a month

Except for good potatoes 

We’ve tried every kind there is, russets, reds and whites

There’s just somethin’ ‘bout our soil gives ‘em all the blight

Momma’s cookin’ can’t be beat down to every bite

Except for good potatoes

We’d be self sufficient, wouldn’t need a thing

If not for beans and taters, and our hankering

So, once a month it’s off to town just to buy one thing

A bag o’ good potatoes 

We’ve got music on the porch when we’ve been to town

Sister when she’s full o’ taters, she can sho’ throw down

None o’ us could pick or sing we have often found
