Thanks, Dave, for the nice Newsletter honoring Mother's Day. I likewise lost my mother back in 2017. I want to also wish all the mothers out there a most wonderful and Happy Mother's Day. Thought I'd share a song and a tribute to my mother I posted on social media. I owe a lot to my mother for my love for music. I called her an entertainment-aholic. :-) She dearly loved music and was also deeply into the artists (and really TV and movie personalities as well). She was ahead of her time. A groupie of sorts before the world knew what that was. :-) In fitting with the idea of this song, I tended to incorporate a lot of what I've liked over my lifetime of exposure to music, which is pretty much the history of Rock & Roll. Here's the post. Link to the song below.
=======================
My mother never learned to play an instrument, but she was super talented. She could sing beautiful alto harmony naturally with no training whatsoever. She shared the same love and passion for music that I do. I believe I got it from her. Very important for me, she loved all types of music and kept it going all day long, which helped me find MY passion for music. And through her exposing me to all types of music, I learned to appreciate it all -- all genres -- new and old. Toward my mother’s final days, one of the most beautiful moments I got to witness was one day when I came into her room at the care facility I discovered they had brought her a boom box and a CD of old hymns. As I stood at the door I heard her singing along at 91 years old with songs like “Amazing Grace” hitting every note and coming in at exactly the right place in perfect time …and she knew all the words to every single verse. She was a great mother to have. She put a song in my heart that still continues to play every day of my life.

RAISED ON THE RADIO
Music turned me on from the time Momma turned on the radio
It had a hold on me that I knew never was gonna let me go
From that radio speaker came the sweetest harmony
It went straight to my heart and made it beat with the melody
I loved that music
Sweet, sweet music
Yea I loved that music
Never wanted it to end
Never wanted it to end
Never ever, ever wanted there to be an end to those sweet sounds
It sounded like something from Heaven
Music fed my heart and soul
I was raised on the radio, raised on the radio
My fav’rite DJ introduced me to all the latest songs
I’d buy those Hit Paraders with the lyrics so I could sing along
I learned those guitar chords and first thing you knew I could play ‘em all
When they came on the radio I’d crank up my amp and nail my parts
I loved that music
Sweet, sweet music
Yea I loved that music
Never wanted it to end
Never wanted it to end
Never ever, ever wanted there to be an end to those sweet sounds
It sounded like something from Heaven
Music fed my heart and soul
I was raised on the radio, raised on the radio
Finally got me a radio I could hold in my hands
I’d call that request line and listen all day to my favorite bands
Yea, I’m their biggest fan
Sunday morning Momma tuned in the Gospel hour
Learned to love all kinds of music and felt its amazing power
Yea I love that music
Never want it to end
Never want it to end
Never ever, ever want there to be an end to those sweet sounds
It sounded like something from Heaven
Music fed my heart and soul
I was raised on the radio, raised on the radio
